Bayer partners with UNESCO on Eco-Minds
In New Zealand, Bayer has partnered with the New Zealand National Commission for UNESCO to assist with delivering the Eco-Minds programme in 2009.
The New Zealand National Commission for UNESCO is the focal point for UNESCO in New Zealand.
The National Commission functions as a Board and consists of five members and a Chairperson appointed by the Minister of Education.
Membership is drawn from each of the five sectors of UNESCOs work, education, natural sciences, social and human sciences, culture and communications and information.
The Chairperson of the National Commission since 2006 has been Dame Silvia Cartwright. The work of the National Commission is supported by a Secretariat based within the International Division of the Ministry of Education, in Wellington.
The National Commission for UNESCO exists to meet New Zealand’s obligations as a Member State of UNESCO for the purpose of:
(i) Constituting the main channel of co-operation between UNESCO and New Zealand expertise in the areas of its mandate;
(ii) Managing New Zealand’s relationship with UNESCO. Its vision is "Action for peace and social justice through education, the natural, social and human sciences, culture, communication and information".
Its mission is to meet New Zealand's obligations as a Member State, to contribute to the development of UNESCO programmes and strategic priorities, to represent and promote New Zealand's interests and, within the context of the Asia and Pacific region, to contribute to the building of peace, the eradication of poverty, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue.
